Dr. Mona Gleason

Dr. Mona Gleason is a historian of education specializing in the history of children and youth. Her research examines age and size as categories of historical analysis, gender and sexuality, health and the body, race and nation, and the family, with particular attention to how young people and their families responded to educational, medical, and psychological interventions.

She has authored two books, co-edited five collections, and published extensively in leading journals, including History of Education Quarterly, Canadian Historical Review, and Journal of Family History. Dr. Gleason co-founded the History of Children and Youth Group and served as President of the Society for the History of Children and Youth (2015-2017).

  • Dr. Mona Gleason served as the organizing chair for the Society for the History of Children and Youth’s 8th Biennial Conference (SHCY 2015). The University of British Columbia hosted over 200 delegates from around the world for this conference.
